What to Do in Common Dental Emergencies
Knocked-Out Tooth
- Hold by the crown, not the root
- Rinse gently if dirty — do not scrub
- Keep the tooth in place in the mouth if possible, or store it in milk or cool water
- Call us immediately
Broken Tooth
- Rinse with warm water
- Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling
- Call for urgent care
Bitten Tongue or Lip
- Apply pressure with a clean cloth
- Use a cold compress for swelling
- If bleeding doesn’t stop, go to the ER
Object Stuck Between Teeth
- Gently try to remove with floss
- Do not use sharp tools
- Call us if you can’t remove it
